My photo went viral

In less than a month, my acorn woodpecker photo received 8,146 views and 96 shares — by the Audubon Society and other wildlife groups — on Facebook.

As you can see, the woodpecker is busily caching acorns in the bark of a tree ("granary"). What an amazing behavior to witness in nature. And what an incredible response from people who care.

Story from my book inspires preschoolers

Preschoolers in Oakland, CA — with the guidance from their amazing teacher, Claudia Santos — created these beautiful turtles (plus a sparkling blue ocean!), inspired by my book, Dream Affimals: Affirmations + Animals.

In particular, they learned about loggerhead sea turtles, how they start their lives by hatching from eggs buried by their mother in beach sand. Then, under the light of the moon, the tiny turtles run to safety in the sea—the a vast and abundant place where they will spend most of the rest of their lives.

What can we learn from the tale of the sea turtle? As the books says: "To reach for an ocean dreams."

Photo exhibition "To Fly" opening Thursday, October 16

Please join me in celebrating my upcoming photo exhibition — "To Fly" — this Thursday night in Oakland. The show will feature a small selection of images of birds in flight. I'm very excited.
